Hillside Project Community Benefits
A key area of focus for the HMCCC, is social and community benefits. This includes employment, business opportunities, community investment and sponsorship. Although the HMCCC isn't directly involved in these arrangements of the mine, the committee works closely with Rex to encourage and help maximise community opportunities and benefits.
The following information has been provided by Rex and is acknowledged by the HMCCC as part of the community benefit outcomes.
Rex Minerals Ltd understands that it's procurement and employment practices significantly influence local and regional communities potential to realise employment and economic development opportunities from the Project. Rex is committed to providing opportunities for local and Indigenous businesses and community members, to benefit from the Project.
The Hillside Project Social Management Plan includes a: Local Employment Management Plan and Local Business Development Plan.
To help prioritise the Project's Area of Influence, the following three geographical tiers have been established by Rex for Hillside.
Tier 1: Ardrossan, Maitland, Minlaton and other towns within 30 minutes travel time of the Project site;
Tier 2: Yorke Peninsula Council Local Government area;
Tier 3: Narungga State Electoral Division.
Employment opportunities
The Hillside Project will have a workforce of approximately 500 direct employees and contractors during construction, and over 400 jobs during operations. Further jobs will be created as a result of the project, with an expected employment multiplier of approximately 2.7.
The Project is in the pre-development stage and there is currently no start date for when general recruitment will commence. In the meantime, Rex is compiling a register of expressions of interest in working at Hillside, in preparation for general site recruitment as the Project progresses.
